We are excited to be welcoming students to campus for the Fall 2026 semester. Below is some information related to move-in. Additional information will be added to this website throughout the summer months and will be communicated to students prior to move-in.
August 26-27, 2026 - New Student Move-In
We ask that you arrive on your scheduled day and time.
Step 1: Pick-up your room key from the designated check-in location. Check-in locations are included in the UMD Move-in Information email sent to students the week before fall move-in.
Step 2: Drive to your assigned unloading zone (directions provided at the check-in location).
Step 3: Unload belonging and move vehicle(s) to an exterior parking lot (map provided at the check-in location).
Step 4: Move belongings into your room and complete the online room inventory form in the Housing Portal.
Make sure those who are helping move students onto campus know where the student is living in case you get separated.
- For example, Griggs and which section (A-F, K-S), Ianni, LSH, Burntside, Vermilion
- Junction or Oakland Apartments
No U-Hauls, trailers or campers are allowed in the unloading zones.
Limited large red carts are available.
If your building does not have an elevator consider bringing a dolly.
August 28 - 30, 2026 - Returning Student Move-In
Returning students can arrive on August 28-30, 2026 between the hours of 8am - 10pm daily.
Returning students will complete their check-in and get their keys at the Housing Information Desk in Lake Superior Hall.
Traffic Advisories
There is currently a major construction project on I-35 through western Duluth, reducing traffic speed in each direction. We encourage you to review the MNDOT website to be aware of any construction projects that may impact your journey to UMD.
New Student Move-In Spring Semester 2027
New students living on campus for the 2027 spring semester can begin moving in at 9 am on Sunday, January 10, 2027. Students should pick up their keys from the Lake Superior Hall Information Desk.
