What to Bring

For the Residence Halls & the Apartments:

  • Twin XL (36" X 80") bedding (sheets, comforter, pillows, etc.)
  • Towels & washcloth
  • Toiletries
  • Clothes
  • Hangers
  • Laundry basket or hamper & detergent (HE, not pods)
  • Microwave (1000 watts maximum)
  • Fan
  • Power strip (UL-approved)
  • Smart TVs or TV & Streaming Device
  • Streaming service log ins and gaming equipment 
  • Shower caddy & shower shoes
  • Storage containers and/or closet organizer
  • Damage-free adhesives 
  • Laptop
  • School supplies
  • Personal information (health insurance card, IDs, etc.)
  • Personal health kit (including thermometer)
  • Reusable shopping bags (City of Duluth has a 5 cent bag fee)

For the Residence Halls:

  • Desk lamp (non-halogen)

For the Apartments:

  • Pots & pans
  • Dishes
  • Utensils
  • Food storage containers
  • Dish towel
  • Small appliances
  • Dish drainer
  • Shower curtain & rings
  • Bath mat or rug
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Tall kitchen trash can
  • Small bathroom trash can
  • Small finishing nails

These items are allowed, but we encourage you to think about whether you need them:

Many of these items are found in the trash at the end of the year

  • Futons and other furniture
  • Full length mirrors
  • Area rugs
  • Printers (public printing stations are located on campus)
  • Bed risers (up to 12 inches, though most are only sold in 6 inch sizes)

 

What to leave at home:

  • Vapes & cigarettes
  • Halogen lamps
  • Lofting systems
  • Air conditioner units
  • Candles, wax warmers, and incense
  • Air-soft guns, ornamental knives, or any other weapon
  • Dart boards
  • Extension cords that are not UL-approved
  • Pets (except fish in a 10 gallon or less aquarium)
  • Rubber backed carpet
  • LED light strips with included adhesives (due to damage this causes to walls)
  • Refrigerators, George Foreman grills, air fryers, hot or induction plates, toasters, toaster ovens, or anything with an open heating element (these items are restricted in the residence halls, but allowed in the apartment kitchens)
